We sell over 250 varieties of native trees, shrubs, and perennials—ranging from large 20-gallon oak trees to one-gallon milkweeds, quart-sized ferns, and trays of plugs featuring a wide variety of native grasses. We also offer garden herbs such as lavender and edible plants like highbush blueberry.
-
We do our best to keep our inventory as accurate and up to date as possible, but availability can change quickly—especially with large orders. Occasionally, a plant you’ve purchased may sell out earlier in the week before we’re able to update the site.
If this happens, we’ll contact you promptly to discuss the best next step. You’ll have the option to:
Swap for another plant of equal value
Receive a refund for the unavailable item
Receive store credit at a 20% bonus toward a future purchase
We maintain a large and diverse inventory, so there is almost always a strong alternative available if a specific plant sells out.

Our focus is on North American native plants, with an emphasis on species well-suited to the Hudson Valley and Northeast and valued for both their aesthetic qualities and ecological importance.
While approximately 95% of our inventory is native, we also carry a small selection of seasonal herbs—such as rosemary and lavender—and a few non-native edible shrubs, like fig, for vegetable and kitchen gardens.

Yes! You can purchase native plants directly from us at the Beacon Farmers Market every Sunday from 10:00am–2:00pm. It’s also a great opportunity to meet in person and discuss upcoming projects.
Due to physical space limitations, our market setup features a curated selection of seasonally interesting plants, rather than our full inventory. We strongly recommend taking advantage of the 10% discount on online orders—we’ll bring your plants to the market for easy pickup.

In both our Native Plant Store and Native Plant Plug Store, we group plants into two deer-related categories:
Deer-Resistant
These are plants that deer rarely browse in the Hudson Valley. This is a limited category but includes reliable favorites such as milkweed.
Low-Intensity Deer-Resistant Plants
These are plants that deer may pass on when browsing pressure is low—for example, in areas where deer are present only occasionally rather than nightly. While this is uncommon across much of the Hudson Valley, it can apply in more urban environments or on properties with natural or built barriers that limit deer access, such as roads, buildings, or farm fencing.
If you’re gardening in New York City, deer are generally not a concern—congratulations! In more rural areas, we recommend either creating a protected garden space, such as a fenced planting area, or selecting plants from the Deer-Resistant category for the best long-term success.

You can plant native plants at any time of year, but summer plantings require extra care to reduce transplant stress caused by heat.
If you’re planning ahead, the best time to plant is fall through early winter, followed closely by early spring. Fall planting is ideal because cooler temperatures and consistent moisture allow roots to establish during dormancy. When spring arrives, plants focus on root growth first, so by summer they are better equipped to handle heat and drought.
That said, the best time to plant is ultimately when you’re ready to do it.

Our plants are grown from seed, cuttings, and starter plugs, either on our farm or in collaboration with trusted regional growers. Many native plants take several years to reach market-ready size.
-
No. We do not wild-collect plants. All plants are responsibly nursery-grown to protect wild populations and ecosystems.
-
Yes. We offer plant curation services to help you select the right plants for your site, goals, and conditions. This guidance helps you make the right decisions upfront—avoiding common (and costly) mistakes such as choosing plants that deer will browse or that aren’t suited to your sun, shade, or moisture conditions.
If you’ve gardened before, you know how frustrating these issues can be. We make the process easy by selecting plants that align with your space, preferences, and long-term success.

Yes—on a selective basis, depending on our availability and schedule.
The types of projects we consider include show gardens, property development projects, and habitat enrichment projects, which often focus on increasing biodiversity through deer fencing and strategic plantings.
These projects are typically multi-season efforts with larger budgets. For clients who primarily need help deciding what to plant, or who are looking for logistical support such as delivery and installation, we readily offer those services at accessible rates.

The timber rattlesnake is a New York State–threatened species and a long-time native resident of our farm. We live alongside it with respect, and it has become a meaningful symbol of coexistence and stewardship for us
